Candlestick Apothecary Jars

I accidentally stumbled upon this idea a while back, and immediately had to make my own. Now that I've made them, I want to make more. Will my house look odd if I have sets of apothecary jars in every room of my house, I wonder? After reading blog after blog, webpage after webpage, I armed myself with supplies. Here's how mine were made: (Click on the pics to bring up the full size. I've got to tweak this layout. Ugh!)

The supplies--3 candlesticks I picked up at Hobby Lobby, 50% off; 3 jars I liked the looks of, Hobby Lobby, also 50% off; 3 finials I found at Michael's that I liked, NOT 50% off; black spray paint. (if I do more of these with glass holders, I will prime them first, I think. If I dig with my nails, the paint chips ever so slightly... so I just won't dig on these with my nails ;-) Ha!)

I put mine out on the grass on newspaper, because it's nearing the end of grass growing season and I didn't want rings of black grass for months. LOL

Candlestick Apothecary Jars (3)

I used E6000 glue on mine. Tough stuff!

Candlestick Apothecary Jars (4)

Here they are, waiting the 2 minutes before I smashed them together:

Attached and waiting the suggested 24 hour period before I could see them all together. Ok, ok, I didn't wait a full 24. More like 20, but they seem to be pretty much welded together for eternity. =D

Tadaaaaa!!! I'm in love, I'm in love and I don't care who knows it!!! (If you know what movie that comes from, you're awesome!)

And one more look, just because I love 'em! I plan on changing them up for the seasons. Christmas will be fun! The possibilities are endless, really. Google "candlestick apothecary jars" for your own hours and hours of inspiration, and let me know if you make your own! I'd love to see them! =)

Glade Expressions Bzzzzzzzz!

Thanks to http://www.bzzagent.com I got to test out Glade Expressions, which I've seen in stores, but never got around to trying out. (They sent me a kit with one of each free for me, and tons of GREAT high value coupons for you!) I liked the look, I just like to know someone who has tried them before I "invest". So if you've been waiting on a bud to sniff and tell, here you go!!! =D

First, let's talk about the Glade Expressions Oil Diffuser. I. LOVE. IT. Glade has come up with four deliciously natural smelling scents for their new line. (Check 'em out here: http://www.glade.com/en-US/Collections/expressionscollection/Pages/default.aspx>. If only our computers were scratch and sniff!!) At my local store, the starter kits are $5.99 each.

Here's what your kit comes with:

Glade Bzz (36)

Just pop in your diffuser...

Glade Bzz (30)

Pop the diffuser and little oil bottle into the beautiful bamboo holder...

Glade Bzz (28)

And place in room of choice! It's versatile enough that it will look good in any room! I chose the bathroom for ours. I keep popping my head in the door, just to smell it! It smells sooooo good! No chemical smell at all! Like I have a sliced pineapple sitting in the bathroom. Which would be weird... 0_o But since it's a Glade oil diffuser, it's not weird at all. =D Look how pretty!

Now, on to the Fragrance Mist Starter Kit. They are $2.99 at my store.

I like the style of the misters. I really do. They look a lot more attractive, since you can peel the label off, as I did. I like how the base unscrews and you just slide the new refill in. BUT, and maybe it's just my bottle I picked up, it just doesn't spray as well as other Glade products. I seem to get a lot of STREAMS of delicious scent, rather than a nice MIST. Plus, I find I have to squeeze pretty hard sometimes, which I'm sure you're not supposed to need to do. Overall, I like it, but I don't think I'd use it as much as I would their regular cans (or my new favorite, oil diffuser!!) See for yourself! Maybe I just got a bum bottle. =)

Glade Bzz (7)

Glade Bzz (16)

Glade Bzz (24)

It does look nice in the bathroom. But I still prefer the oil diffuser, hands down. I plan on taking the mister to my office. With all the leaky ceilings and walls in that place, it can smell kind of funky. I prefer the scent of Fuji Apple and Cardamom to moldy carpet ANY DAY.

The Buzz on *Unreal* Junk Food!

We all know candy is supposed to be an occasional treat, even if we don't always stick to the "occasional" part. ;-) But what if there was a treat made with less sugar? Ingredients you could feel good about putting into your body, so that when "occasional" turns into a little *more* than occasional, it's really not that bad? Well, that treat is here, and it's called Unreal! The cashier at CVS turned down my offer of a BOGO coupon for Unreal, saying he preferred the "real" stuff. Well, actually, my friend, Unreal IS the real stuff! Real food, made into a REALLY good candy!

IMG_5922

Josh and I have tried two of the five varieties so far, even though we bought all five. (Occasional, remember?? Though since this IS for a Bzz Campaign... maybe a little more than occasional. Just this once! Hee hee!)

First up, was the peanut butter cup:

Look at the cute little design on the bottom of the cup! Adorable!

IMG_5923

Delicious, melty and gooey, just like a peanut butter cup is supposed to be!

IMG_5924

Our opinion? It was good. They don't taste *just* like a Reese's PB Cup, but they would satisfy the craving, I think. And check out the comparison from Unreal's website! (http://getunreal.com/)

Unreal PB cups

TEN less grams of sugar! TEN! Now, since Josh has to watch his sugar intake for his blood sugar, and I've been trying to watch my sugar intake for my overall health, I'd say Unreal PB cups make the cut! They're delicious AND better for you!

As an after lunch treat the next day, we split Unreal's version of a Milky Way bar:

IMG_5926

Mmmmm, look at all that caramel! Our opinion? DELICIOUS! Our favorite so far!! I couldn't tell a difference between Unreal and Milky Way, personally. Now let's see how it compares, nutrition-wise:

Unreal Milky way

WOW! Sixteens fewer grams of sugar! Yes, I realize that the serving size is slightly smaller in the Unreal candies, but you really don't miss those few extra grams of sugary goodness, or not-so-goodness. ;-)

Bottom line, we're sold on Unreal candy. I feel better about Josh eating it when he's just GOT to have a real piece of candy, and I feel better eating a healthier treat for myself when the cravings strike. I just wish they had Unreal in our vending machines at work!!! Try them out for yourself! I have coupons!!!! =D

Are you Smarterer than me?

I bet you are! I submitted the wrong blog post to my BzzAgent. *major blush* (If you don't know what the bzz I'm talking about, check out http://www.bzzagent.com/. The short of it is, you take surveys, you sometimes test out products, and tell others about your experience. And it can be a lot of fun! Check it out!!)

My newest campaign was to try out Smarterer.

If you like to test your knowledge, this seems like a really fun place to do it. Competitive? Brag to your friends about your scores and goad them into trying to beat you! Are you the quiet type? Beat the socks off of people and take a victory spin or two in your office chair. Maybe even throw in a quiet cheer -- "Go me! Yaaaay!" You can even create your own quizzes, or add questions to current ones.

Here's some of the quizzes I took, and yes, how I did, good and not-so-good. (Was going to add the cute little badges, but they don't appear to be working at the moment, so here's a screenie!)

Smarterer

Now I'm off to take the Disney trivia quiz. I KNOW I'll rock that one! And I do believe a Spongebob quiz is in order... I can't believe no one has created one, yet!! Tsk!

No Gurls Aloud

Ok, so there's not a "No Girls Allowed" sign on the door, but I do tease Josh that it's only a matter of time before he nails one up. ;-) Finally, he's finished his media room, and I have to admit, it turned out pretty darn cool!

As a reminder, here are the before and during photos:

We moved! Well, not really, but it felt like it!

We've been saving for a while to replace the 60 year old parquet floors that infested the back of our house. Old, yellowed and worn out, they were well past needing to go! So, we bit the bullet after Christmas, and started the demolition process. We're horrible about getting before pictures, but I'll post the ones I have... some are "in between" photos instead of before. =D Don't judge me!!!

But before I show you those, here's your fair warning, should you decide to take on such a remodel of your home... A whole house full of "stuff", crammed into the already full garage, kitchen and living room. I'm so glad it's over... I've never been so happy to be able to CLEAN!!

It's Driving Me CRAZY! (1)

The new soon to be "Media Room", or some Zombie Somethingorother, as Josh calls it. ;-)

Hallway BETWEEN:

Hallway-floor removed (1)

The tile you see in the kitchen there, was over the top of the parquet. Initially, it was going to be temporary, until we could replace all of our floors. The contractor said he'd never seen *that* done before... That's something, right?? (we didn't tell him we'd done it. Ha!!) ANYway, "temporary" turned into almost 8 years. =D Done now, though!

Tadddaaaaaa! For what it's worth. LOL It feels like a brand new house, especially with the bathroom remodel a couple of months ago. Of course... now the half bath is looking a bit dingy... ;o)
